04 Gross Anatomy of Skeletal Muscles Flashcards
(15 cards)
covers the frontal bone; allows you to raise your eyebrows and to wrinkle your forehead
Frontalis
covers the posterior aspect of the skull and pulls the scalp posteriorly
Occipitalis
- run in circles around the eyes (eyebags area)
- allows you to close your eyes, squint, blink, and wink
Orbicularis Oculi
circular muscle of the lips; “kissing” muscle
Orbicularis Oris
flattens the cheek
chewing muscle
buccinator
extends from the corner of the mouth to the
cheekbone; “smiling” muscle
Zygomaticus
covers the angle of the lower jaw as it runs from the zygomatic process of the temporal bone to the mandible; closes the jaw by elevating the mandible
Masseter
fan-shaped muscle overlying the temporal bone. It inserts into the mandible and acts as a synergist of the masseter in closing the jaw
Temporalis
covers the anterolateral neck;
- originates from the connective tissue covering of the chest muscles and inserts into the area around the mouth;
- “sad clown” face muscle as it pulls the corners of the mouth inferiorly
Platysma
they flex your neck
two- headed muscles, one found on each side of the neck- one arises from the sternum, and the other arises from the clavicle
Sternocleidomastoid
