What are Harris growth arrest lines?
transverse radiopaque lines within the long metaphysis, representing points of resumed growth after it stopped
What condition are Harris growth arrest lines associated with?
Marfan’s syndrome
What is a bipartite patella?
extra ossification center located in the superolateral patella where part of patella does not fully heal along bony edges of patella (uncommon Fx site)
What is the treatment for a bipartite patella?
rest and rehab
What is Os fabella?
ossicle at posterior capsule of knee joint
What is Os cyamella?
ossicle at popliteus tendon insertion
What is Os trigonum?
ossification at Achilles tendon (junction of tibia, talus, & calcaneus)
What actions cause symptomatic cases of Os trigonum?
frequent plantarflexion which traps ossicle between calcaneus & tibia
(eg. sprinters, ballet dancers)
What is the clinical significance of an Os trigonum?
possible fatigue Fx
What is Os supranaviculare?
ossicle above the navicular bone
What is Os tibialis externum?
ossicle medial to navicular on tibial side of foot
What is Os peroneum?
ossicle on lateral side of foot, near the cuboid
What is Ludloff spot/triangle?
area of lucency in distal femur between medial and lateral femoral condyles
(can’t see on frontal view due to patella)
What is tarsal coalition?
congenital fusion within the tarsus
What are the 2 types of tarsal coalition?
bony or fibrous
What is the clinical presentation of tarsal coalition?
Sx related to pes planus or high arch
What are the most common forms of tarsal coalition?
- calcaneonavicular
- talocalcaneal
(on lab exam just say tarsal coalition)
What radiographic sign is associated with calcaneonavicular tarsal coalition?
anteater sign
What radiographic sign is associated with talocalcaneal tarsal coalition?
C sign
What is a talar beak?
developmental variant (not to be confused w/ hypertrophic spurring) adjacent to talonavicular joint
What other diagnosis is likely if a talar beak is observed?
tarsal coalition
What is hallux valgus?
proximal phalanx deviated laterally and first metatarsal head deviates medially
What is the appearance of hallux valgus?
looks like a bunion
