Intrathoracic rib

19
Q

What is the diagnosis?

A

Rib synostosis

20
Q

What is the diagnosis?

Lushka bifurcated rib

21
Q

What is the diagnosis?

22
Q

What is the most common deformity of the chest wall?

A

Pectus Excavatum

23
Q

What is pectus excavatum?

A

exaggerated anterior concavity of the sternum

24
Q

What are the potential causes of pectus excavatum?

A
  • most cases idiopathic
  • fetal alcohol syndrome
  • CT disorders (Marfan syndrome, Ehlers Danlos)
25
What is the clinical significance of pectus excavatum?
most are incidental findings - less rib excursion (rigid t/s) = diminished vital capacity - possible cardiopulmonary insufficiency - possible aneurysm formation (^ w/ CT disorders)
26
What radiographic finding of pectus excavatum is seen on an AP view?
cardiac shift (complete L sided heart shadow)
27
What causes cardiopulmonary insufficiency in a patient with pectus excavatum?
compression of right atrium and ventricle
28
If you see a complete left-sided heart shadow on an AP view of the thoracic spine, what are you concerned about?
atelectasis (until you see lat t/s view)
29
What is pectus carinatum?
sternum is bowed anteriorly
30
What is the term used to describe the appearance of pectus excavatum?
"funnel chest"
31
What is the term used to describe the appearance of pectus carinatum?
"pigeon breast chest"
32
What condition is associated with pectus carinatum?
morquio's syndrome
33
What happens to the retrosternal space in a patient with pectus excavatum?
decreased
34
What is the diagnosis?
Pectus excavatum
35
Name a radiographic finding.
Cardiac shift (Dx: Pectus excavatum)
36
What is the diagnosis?
Pectus carinatum
37
What is the diagnosis?
Pectus carinatum
38
What is costochondral cartilage calcification?
Calcification of anterior rib (Normal physiologic phenomenon)
39
What is the diagnosis?
Costochondral cartilage calcification
