ability to deliver culturally appropriate and specifically tailored care to patients with diverse values, beliefs, and behaviors

2 thou shall not stereotype (known holding knowledge)
stereotyping: classifying or placing people into a narrow, fixed view with rigid, or inflexible, transcultural nursing: essential nursing knowledge boxlike characteristics
actively strive to discover and address own implicit bias
3 thou shall not discriminate
discrimination: Overt or covert actions or ways that limit opportunities, choices, or life experiences of others based on feeling or biases
EX: not hiring or promoting based off their race
4 thou shall conduct cultural assessment
with every single client

5 thou shall not be culturally blind
- inability of an individual to understand another culture mainly because of an inability to recognize or see one’s own lifestyle, values, and modes of acting as those based largely on prejudices and ethnocentric and biased tendencies.
6 thou shall not engage in cultural imposition
-the tendency of an individual or group to impose their beliefs, values, and patterns of behavior on another culture for varied reasons
7 thou shall not cause cultural pain
-suffering, discomfort, or being greatly offended by an individual or group who shows a great lack of sensitivity toward another’s cultural experiences (disregarded belief)
8 thou shall value cultural diversity
- variations and differences among and between cultural groups resulting from differences in lifeways, language, values, norms, expressions, and other cultural aspects (same values)
9 thou shall respect cultural values, beliefs, and practices

10 thou shall provide culturally congruent integrative and collaborative care

through integration of generic and professional care practices
via use of leininger’s culture care modes:
culture care preservation (encourage walk) and maintenance (loves fried chicken and chips and motorcycle without helmet
culture care accommodation (nurse practice-try to accommodate family) and or negotiation (patient practice-eat baked chicken with no skin)
culture care repatterning and restructuring (motorcycle without helmet-education)
