unconscious bias (NORMAL)

A

implicit bias refers to the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious manner

NORMAL and a reflection of how our minds operate and stereotypes we don’t realize we hold (learned behavior by family-unaware/ignorance)

EX:
sorority girls: party a lot, mean, exclusive
faculty members: development
medical doctors: hard to contact, demanding, intelligent, bad hand writing
the elderly: weak, wisdom, advice, slow drivers

microaggressions

A

everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicates hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership

ex: some people get it all the time like multiple mosquito bites
