What is the treatment for Meningococcal Septicaemia in adults?
If IV access:
- Ceftriaxone 1g IV
- Diluted with Water for injection to make 10mL
- Administered slowly over 2 mins
Manage inadequate perfusion as per the cpg
If IV access not available:
- Ceftriaxone 1gIM
- Diluted with 3.5mL 1% lignocaine HCL to make 4mL
- Administer into large muscle
What is the treatment for Meningococcal Septicaemia in paeds?
Ceftriaxone 50mg/kg (max 1000mg)
- Dilute 1000mg with 3.5mL Lignocaine
What are the S&S of meningeal signs of meningococcal septicaemia?
Meningeal signs:
- headache
- photophobia
- neck stiffness
- nausea and vomiting
- altered consciousness
What are the S&S of septicaemia signs of meningococcal septicaemia?
Septicaemia signs:
- fever/rigor/joint muscle pain
- cool hands and feet
- tachycardia
- hypotension
- tachypnoea
What are the contras for Ceftriaxone
hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
