3.10 Kp Flashcards
What is Kp, and what does it do?
Kp provides an alternative method of calculating the equilibrium constant for a reaction in the gas phase by using the contribution of each substance to the overall pressure of the system
What is the mole fraction?
The mole fraction (X) is the ratio of moles of one substance in a mixture to the total number of all substances
Give a general equation of how you calculate mole fraction ?
Moles of one species / the sum of the moles of all species
How do you calculate the partial pressure of a species?
Partial pressure (P) = Mole fraction (X) x Total pressure
How do you calculate the equilibrium constant (Kp)
For the reaction aA + bB <=> cC + dD
Kp = (PCc x PDd) / (PAa x PBb)
Where PD is partial pressure of D, and d is number of moles
What is Kp only affected by?
Temperature
