Response To Assesment Flashcards
What are the two types of blood pressure?
Systolic and diastolic
What is systolic blood pressure?
Blood pressure while the heart is squeezing/contracting
What is diastolic blood pressure?
Blood pressure while the heart is relaxing
Give an average blood pressure for an adult male
120/80 mmHg
Which reading is which in the blood pressure 120/80 mmHg?
120 is the systolic blood pressure, 80 is the diastolic blood pressure
What is blood pressure determined by?
Cardiac output (Q) and resistance to blood flow (R).
Which type of muscle fibre is best suited for a 100m sprinter?
Type IIx because they don’t use oxygen and are fast twitch fibres. They tire easily but are good for short bursts of high intensity exercise like sprinting.
What is the composition of inhaled air?
- Oxygen - 21%
- Carbon dioxide - 0.04%
- Nitrogen - 79%
What effect does exercise have on blood pressure?
It increases blood pressure, as cardiac output also increases. A typical reading at the start of an exercise session would be 160/85 mmHg.
What is the cardiac output of someone with a heart rate of 70bpm and a stroke volume of 80ml?
Q = 70 x 80 = 5600ml
