- Canadian physician and professor
- First clinical laboratory was established
- Routine examinations were carried out
- Gave attention to malarial parasites in blood
James C. Todd (1908)
- Wrote a book: Clinical Diagnosis: a Manual of Laboratory Methods
- Edited by John Bernard Henry and retitled as Clinical Diagnosis and Management by Laboratory Methods.

- 26th Medical Laboratory of the 6th US Army established the 1st known clinical laboratory in the Philippines

work as laboratory technicians - Facilitated by the healthcare team of the
26th Medical Laboratory

- 6th US Army left the laboratory and endorsed it to the National Department of Health
- Became non-functional

- He thought that residents of Manila could be better served by laboratory methods to solve their problems in relation to their health

Medical Laboratory, now known as Manila Public Health Laboratory was formally organized under leadership of Dr. Pio de Roda
Dr. Prudencia Sta Ana (1947, in PH)
- Instructed by Dr. Pio de Roda to train medical technicians, highschool, and paramedical graduates for free for interested people
- Training was not well set, no specific or definite period of training, and no issued certificate of completion

- Dr. Pio de Roda instructed Dr. Sta Ana to prepare a syllabus of training for medical technicians
- 6 months of training period
- Certificate of Completion was given for successful trainees
- Joined by Dr. Tirso Briones

- Manila Sanitarium and Hospital in Pasay City (Manila Adventist Medical Center) and Philippine Union College in Baesa, Caloocan City (Adventist University of the Philippines) now in Silang Cavite, started to offer Medical
Technology course through the pioneering efforts of Willa Hilgert Hedrick - 1st 4-yr BSMT Course
- Founder of Medical Technology Education in Philippines
- American medical practitioner and missionary of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Philippines
