Martin Luther King Jr. 8.7

A

Definition- Martin Luther was a very important leader in the civil rights movement and worked alongside other leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. He encouraged nonviolent ways of protesting and civil disobedience. For Example, Court decisions banning racial segregation in school, a year-long boycott of public transportation, and massive marches for Jobs and Freedom. He was successful in his work and led to the Civil Rights Act which would outlaw discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

LO(9)- In the United States, there were many protests against segregation of race and ethnicity. Most of the fights against this were peaceful but ended up being successful overall.

Nelson Mandela 8.7

A

Definition- Mohandas Gandhi was the main leader in the Indian independence movement who worked with the Indian National Congress. When trying to gain independence from the British he worked the idea of civil disobedience into his campaign. He would encourage Indians to break the unjust laws that Britain´s imperial system had put on India, and led a boycott against British goods.

LO(9)- The Indians were set on gaining independence and focused on civil disobedience. After WWII they knew that India would soon become stronger than Britain and be able to bargain for independence. Even the Hindus and Muslims would come together to fight to get rid of British rule in India.

A

Definition-The new modes of communication introduced during this time would make the world feel smaller such as the internet and phones which could automatically upload videos to the internet.

LO(1)- These new technologies would make news travel faster and communicate better. Such as the Arab Uprisings which were uploaded to the News to show the devestations.

A

Definition- This was a response to world hunger which used crossbreeding and genetic engineering to produce more food which and fight off pests. There were also new irrigation techniques, fertilizers, and pesticides.

LO(1)- These new technologies would help fight off famine to produce more food, but also would make it harder for small farmers to continue work, and cause a decline in bees.

Medical Innovations (include vaccines and antibiotics) 9.1

A

Definition- There were many medical innovations including antibiotics (penicillin), vaccines were discovered for Malaria, Tuberculosis, Smallpox, and Polio. AIDs would kill 25 million people and it is still not entirely curable, heart disease appeared because of longer life expectancy, and Alzheimer’s would also be caused by this and be genetic.

LO(1)- Having vaccines and discovering antibiotics was imperative due to longer life expectancies, but many people would have trouble gaining access to these resources, so they would pass away.

A

Definition- The Covid-19 Pandemic is based on the coronavirus disease, and due to a lack of vaccines, people would isolate and take the necessary precautions. It would lead to lockdowns and new vaccines.

LO(2)- Through covid-19 there were big changes in the environment pollution wise. For instance, there were major drops in air pollution in countries such as India and China.

Diseases of Poverty 9.2

A

Definition- Disease of Poverty occurred because even when cures existed, some people could not gain access or would be more likely to be diseased because of their conditions. The three diseases of poverty were Malaria, Tuberculosis, and Cholera.

LO(2)- Environmental factors such as poor housing or work conditions or even contaminated water would make people more likely to get these diseases. SO their lack of health care in these places would also make it harder for them to be cured.

Diseases of Longevity 9.2

A

Definition- The diseases associated with longer living would include Heart Disease and Alzheimer´s disease. These diseases typically come to people later on in life, so as life expectancy around the world increased, so did these diseases.

LO(2)- Better environmental quality would lead to these diseases because as air and water pollution decreases, people would live longer. This meant that we would be more susceptible to Alzheimer´s and Heart Disease.

Causes of Environmental Change 9.3

A

Definition- There were many environmental factors that led to environmental factors such as population growth which caused soil erosion, a decrease in renewable resources, and deforestation. There was Urbanization which would deplete the soil and cause deforestation and erosion as well as pollution of war and air. The last big one was Globalization and Industrialization which would contribute to pollution and deplete our resources.

LO(3)- These were mainly caused by global population growth and the need for need land. The effects on the environment are very bad and continue to affect our world.

A

Definition- Economic Liberalization is the lessening of government regulations and restrictions in an economy in exchange for greater participation by outside nations in trade.

LO(4)- Many countries would continue to trade with the same nations. On the other hand, the end of the cold war opened up opportunities for people such as the Eastern nations previously under SU control, and Non Aligned countries who could relax their trade restrictions.

A

Definition- Deng Xiaoping sought out economic growth rather than equality and would lease plots of land to peasants, allow factories to produce more, encourage foreign companies to set up factories in special economic zones, and reopened the Shanghai stock market. Some people thought political reforms should come with it leading to Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

A

Definition- Based on information and communications technology. This would include designers, engineers, teachers, and others where technology companies would use their knowledge to create ways for other people to use theirs through technological communication.

LO(4)- Many careers would stay the same during this time and would be necessary in the world. But there would also be new jobs and changes to existing ones regarding new technological advancements and globalization.

A

Definition- The World Trade Organization was created to take over the GATT. It would cover 90% of global trade, but became controversial when the members prioritized trade over issues of moral concern. Such as someone refusing to buy clothing made by sweatshop labor suffering trade sanctions.

LO(4,7)- Lots of international trade relationships would stay the same, but the WTO would start to control almost all of the trades. Some people would be anti-WTO because of they only cared about trade and not social issues.

A

Definition- This is an organization that is legally incorporated in one country but makes or sells goods in one or more other countries. New examples would include Microsoft and Google.

LO(4)- These companies would continue to be available, but would spread worldwide to gain a global reference. Nestle would be based on their view of water as a product and not a human right.

Definition- An association of southeast Asian nations that would collectively act as an economic unit to attract foreign investments and compete against China as an economic power. Focused on very old dynastic claims to gain new things. Such as the South China Territorial Sea Dispute.

LO(4)- The East Asian countries would continue to grow, but this group was formed to combat China´s economic growth. They would fight for things such as territory.

Definition- The United Nations would bring up the new document that gave these rights; everyone is entitled to their rights without discrimination based on race, color, sex, language, religion, sex, language, political opinion, national origin, property, birth, or another status.

LO(5)- As time goes on, more and more social changes are made and most have been in a good manner, and this Declaration was a big move forward regarding roles in society.

US Civil rights Act 1965 9.5

A

Definition- The US Civil Rights Act was a step toward racial equality in which African Americans won major victories against discrimination. This act would outlaw discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

LO(5)- This movement was very important and the biggest change in racial equality. It was great because of Martin Luther King Jr. and even led to the Voting Rights Act.

A

Definition- This was created by the National Council of Women in Kenya to stop deforestation and soil erosion. They would teach people how to plant their own trees and would provide more fuel for home cooking.

LO(5)- Women would bring this big change to the people and would change the traditional practices of fuel to help with deforestation. It would also help bring ecotourism to Kenya and spread to other nations in Africa.

A

Definition- These were Indian Musicals that would contribute to Global Influences on popular culture. Because worldwide cultural influences would be welcomed into America as a popular type of film.

LO(6)- Globalization has increased over time as communication speed increases. For instances we gained new technology such as the phone, computer, and television, and news began to travel faster around the world than it previously had.

A

Definition- This was an example of Global Culture in Sports. Seeing as soccer was so popular around the globe, the world cup would be a global competition between nations.

LO(6)- This would be a way that nations around the world would become more interconnected because of things such as sports in the Olympics and the World Cup.

United Nations 9.8

A

Definition- Countries came together to form an organization to help prevent war and keep peace among nations. They were the people who came up with The Declaration of Human Rights.

LO(8)- Globalization has made states more connected and have more communication, so the UN helps to ease the tensions.
