A

playing badly, disagreement with official, important game, over arousal, provocation by crowd

instinct theory

A

we have a natural trait/ predisposition to be aggressive
genetically determined and born with tendency to defend ourselves
if we are provoked enough, we will act aggressively
once aggression is released we will calm down (catharsis)

frustration aggression

A

when performer has a drive to achieve a goal but are stopped, they experience frustration
frustration leads to aggressive response
if aggression cannot be released straight away it will build up and will be expressed later on
catharsis achieved when aggressive act is performed ie release aggression

A

performer has goal blocked= frustration
arousal levels increase which means they are ready for an aggressive act
doesn’t directly lead to aggression
aggression only occurs if learned cues/triggers are present

aggression is learned by watching and copying behav of sig others
if an aggressive act is reinforced or is successful, it will increase likelihood that it is imitated

socialisation- aggressive to fit in with team mates who are being aggressive
more likely to imitate someone with similar characteristics
