122: Pancreas and Billiary function. Flashcards
(19 cards)
what do acinar cells produce
chloride rich fluid, amylase, lipase, colipase, tripsinogen, chymotrypsinogen, procarboxypeptidases.
what do ductal cells produce?
bicarbonate to neutralise gastric acid
alpha cells of islets of langerhans produce
glucagon
beta cells of the islets of langerhans produce?
insulin
delta cells of the islet of langerhans produce?
somatostatin ( decreases enzyme response to CCK)
PP cells produce?
pancreatic polypeptide.
what stimulates acinar cells?
Ach and CCK
what is Mirrizzi’s syndrome?
what a gallstone becomes impacted.
what is MRCP?
magnetic resonance cholangio-pancreatography
what is ERCP?
endoscopic retrograde choliangio-pancreatography
what is PTC?
percutaneous transhepatic choliangiogram.
what is HIDA?
hepatobiliary iminodiacetic acid scan.
Symptoms of chronic pancreatitis
fat absorption problems ( steatorrhea), endocrine function fails later causing diabetes
what is the double duct sign?
both the pancreatic and common bile duct are dilated indicating a blockage of the ampulla of vata
?pancreatic tumour
what is cholelithasis?
gall stone disease
what is cholecystitis?
inflammation of the gall bladder. acute causes fever, raised white cell count. chronic thickens the gall bladder wall.
what causes gall stone formation?
high cholesterol and low bile salts (think Crohn’s and surgical resection - they cause bile salt depletion)
black stones contain…
bilirubin.
which condition affects the lungs and pancreas?
cystic fibrosis. Too much Na in cells..thickened secretions.
