Under what circumstances would NYC Transit decide to perform a total evacuation of the subway system? (2)

Answer 1

The Dept of Subways control center General Superintendant, or Super-In-Charge, upon receipt that a confirmed detonation of an explosive device or Nuclear, Biological or Chemical (NBC) incident has occurred on the Surface/Subway Customer Environment, will order a system wide evacuation.

Question 2

Operations: The Control Center will……

1. Direct all train crews to stop their trains in stations, discharge customers and announce “Due to a Police investigation, please exit the train and leave the system immediately.”
2. Order train crews on discharged trains to move out of stations to allow following trains to enter and be guided by Control Center instructions.
3. Order train crews on discharged trains to stack on express and local tracks, secure the trains, leave the system and call the Control Center via telephone from the street.

4. Note: Train crews on trains with customers between stations should contact the Control Center and report their location. The C.C. will direct these trains.
5. Direct any trains unable to get into a station to key by signals, operating with “restricted speed & extreme caution” to allow those trains to move up behind trains in station limits or emergency exit locations if necessary.
