Q

4.1.3
The implementation of any strategic plan and its supporting tactics is
dependent upon what?

A

An ongoing size up, Size-up starts with the receipt of the alarm and continues until the fire is under control.
The responsibility for size-up initially lies
with the first officer on the scene, however all engine company members must
make a personal size-up of the fire situation. As higher ranking officers arrive, the
responsibility for size-up is passed up the chain of command.

4.6.2 Flashover is defined as what?

A

the sudden involvement of a room or area in flames from floor to ceiling caused by thermal radiation
feedback

Q

4.5 what is the difference between initial extinguishment and final extinguishment?

A

Initial extinguishment includes “knock down” of visible flames and readily
apparent burning and smoldering material debris. Final extinguishment means
that any fire uncovered by “opening up” and overhauling procedures has been
extinguished.

Q

When discussing back draft, what other phenomenon is close to the same thing?

A

Ventilation induced flashover
A flashover initiated by the introduction of oxygen into a pre-heated, fuel rich
(smoke filled), oxygen deficient area. This phenomenon can occur with legacy content fires but has become prevalent with modern content fires.
Modern content fires rapidly consume more of the available oxygen within
the fire area creating conditions favorable to a possible ventilation induced
flashover.
