A fifth or sixth grade firefighter may exchange vacation only with
another firefighter of either fifth or sixth grade. Mutual exchanges must be between full duty members currently
working the two platoon system in field units. Applications that involve
members who are on light duty, medical leave, terminal leave, accrued
leave, etc. and/or details off the two platoon system, are not acceptable
for submission.

17.7.15 Vacation leaves shall not be interrupted, delayed or extended by notification of
death in member’s immediate family.

Members granted a bereavement leave which extends into scheduled vacation
leave, shall have such bereavement leave term terminated at 0900 hours of
vacation date as established in Permanent Vacation Letter Books.

Deputy chiefs, receiving a death notification immediately prior to conclusion of
member’s vacation leave, shall grant a bereavement leave to commence on
completion of date of member’s vacation and to conclude at 0900 hours on date
following burial services.

17.4 EMERGENCY LEAVES

17.4.1 Deputy Chiefs shall, when notified of serious illness of a spouse, child, parent
(step, foster or natural), brother or sister of a member, grant an emergency leave
to member. Deputy Chief granting such leave shall complete and forward form
BP-603.

Not your mother in law even if she resides with you but you get bereavement leave if your mother in law dies and she doesn’t live with you

Approved mutual exchange of tours shall not be considered valid if
either member will be on any type of leave or detail for which member
has been notified more than 5 days prior to first date of mutual.
