1.2.4 Atomic Structure - Isotopes Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
What is an isotope?
A
An atom with a different number of neutrons then the standard atom. This means that it will have a different atomic mass.
2
Q
What is an ion?
A
An atom with a negative or positive charge because it has a different number of electrons and protons.
3
Q
What are the chemical properties of isotopes?
A
Similar to the standard atom as the electronic structure is the same.
4
Q
What are the physical properties of isotopes?
A
Different to the standard atom and they have different masses.
5
Q
How are isotopes written
A
Symbol dose not change, on the left side, the atomic number is written at the bottom and the mass number is written at the top.
