Blood Alcohol Concentration Flashcards

1
Q

How does intoxication happen?

A

Alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream through the stomach and small intestine. The liver processes approximately one standard drink per hour. If more than one drink is consumed per hour, the liver cannot keep up, causing the blood alcohol concentration to rise. Alcohol slows down the brain, heart, and lungs, impairing judgment and coordination.
