  • some Christians oppose homosexuality because the bible says that ‘men who have sex with men’ will not be entered into the kingdom of God
  • the catholic church teaches that homosexuals aren’t sinful but should remain chaste ( no sex)
  • the CofE welcomes homosexuals living in committed relationships but does not accept marriage in the church

A

-for many Christians, sex expresses deep, lifelong union that requires the commitment of marriage
- liberal Christians before that it is valid if the couple are intending to get married

Divorce and remarriage

  • christian clergies offer councelling but don’t allow divorce
  • jesus taught that anyone who divorced and remarried was committing adultery
  • vows made in God’s presence must be kept
  • Christians must go through with an annulment to be able to remarry
  • in some cases divorce is the ‘lesser of two evils’

Nature of families

A

-In biblical times, people lived with their extended families
- christians must ‘love each other’
- the commandment ‘ honour your father and mother’ is important especially when parents are elderly

-parents and children have responsibilities to each other, children have duties to obey, love and respect their parents
- children are gifts from God and parents should respect their dignity
