Q

With pitching fork?

A

We use a tube in water so we can control the closed end open end
1) submerged tube in water
2) if we use pitching fork, this will vibrate the speed of sound at the same frequency of it , bound off, cause a stationary wave
3) based on the lenght , density whatever, if sound is hard this is when resonance of the tube happens
- this happens when the first fundamental frequency , 3/4 5/4 occurs but stick to 1/4

4) so lower and keep using hammer to create staijanry wave until first is found. Mark it

Repeat for diff fundamental frequencies, plot f against lenght, gradient is speed of sound /4 (remember the speed is gonna be the speed of wave )

Q

Things o be careful about in the pitching fork

A

1) be careful not to hit hammer with yourself
2) the actual ANTINODE is 0.6r below open end, so do this to get accurate value
3) measuring the curvature of the tube could be hard, so try use a tube with scaling to reduce parallax

Q

Why is a node formed at the closed end, and at the open

A

Closed end air can’t move

Open because this is maximum amount,iTunes of the tube, so antinode

Q

How do sound waves superpose and how ti find the speed of sound

A

Use a microphone , connected to oscilloscope, to find thr psotions fo maxima, and either use path length difference to find the wavelength, and oscilloscope feeuwneyc, or use double slit to find the values

Q

What will happen as we trail away from centre node to the sound

A

The effect is less noticeable as the sound waves lose their amplitude die to losing emergu as they spread out
