How can type I diabetics monitor their sugar?
By self-monitoring (fingerstick)
Continuous (tiny sensor under skin)
If a type 1 diabetic has a dexcom now often to they need to change the sensor

What does an insulin pump provide
Continuous infusion of basal insulin
If pt has a pump what do they have to do at meal times
Bolus insulin at time of meal

Does not regulate bs automatically

Does not replace function of pancreas

Who should get pump therapy
Those w/an A1C greater than 6.5%
Those w/ frequent hypoglycemia
Those in shift work
Those w/ type 2 diabetes and Gastroparesis
