What is meant by “the economy”
The economy refers to the state of a country or a region in terms of the production and cosumption of goods and services and the supply of money.

What has SOCIAL INFLUENCE research allowed psychologists to understand?
How behaviour and attitudes can be changed
What affects have social influence research into eating healthy had on the economy?
- A greater number of people eating healthier would reduce the pressure on NHS resources.
-As well as this having a healthy diet is beneficial for the immune system, allowing less people taking time off work due to sickness, improving productivity.
What is the cognitive interview?
a method of interviewing eyewitnesses and victims about what they remember from a crime scene
What affects have psychological research on cognitive interviews (memory) had on the economy?
-It has hugely improved the amount of accurate information collected from eyewitnesses.
-Which allows the amount of time and money spent on wrongful arrests and wasted police time to be reduced
What were Bowlby’s views on attachment? (hint: monotropic bond)
Bowlby proposed the idea that a child can only ever form a secure attachment and lasting MONOTROPIC BOND with its mother.
How has research changed since Bowlby’s views on attachment?
-Research has shown that both parents are equally capable of providing the emotional support necessary for healthy psychological development.
How have modern views on attachment positively affected the economy?
-It is now normal for households to have flexible working arrangements.
-Mothers who earn more go to work whilst the father stays home OR both parents could alternate between working and staying at home.
-This allows modern parents to maximize their income and contribute more effectively towards the economy.
How much money do absences from work cost the economy?
£15 billion a year
What are a third of absences caused by?
mild to moderate mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety and stress
How has evidence based on effective drug therapies been essential in reducing the cost of mental illness to the economy?
The drugs studied in research such as fluoxetine have allowed the effects of mental illnesses such as depression to be reduced, allowing more individuals to return to work.
How has research into psychopathology been essential in reducing the cost of mental illness to the economy?
Research findings into psychopathology may lead to improvements in psychological treatment programs as well as overall psychological health.
-Allowing people to manage their mental health better and take less time off work.
