- Ripples on water (at right angles to the wind)
- Drifting spray / dust
- wave patterns on crops
- Washing on clothesline
- Aircraft drift

- Longest available (choose the longest one)
- Clear of obstacles /unsafe surface features
- Surface is suitable
- Slope (upslope preferred avoid downslope)
