Having accepted an assignment and then refusing it without giving reasonable notice to the appropriate person

Administering medication, start IVs, alternative feedings, invasive procedures, assessment of patient condition, pt education

The American Nurse Association (ANA)
When are standardized procedure documents important?
When performing duties that are uncommon in general nursing practice. Usually medical practice like conscious sedation, intubation, etc.
Who is ineligible for drug diversion intervention?
Those who have been previously disciplined by the BRN for dependency or mental illness.
Been terminated from a diversion program for noncompliance.
Sold drugs.
Caused patient harm or death.
How long is an RN drug diversion program?
3-5 years
What are the four options for a nurse found to be in violation of the NPA?
Revoke license, surrender license, license put on probation, cite and fine
How long must proof of CEUs be maintained?
4 years from date of obtainment
How many days do you have to report to the BRN a change of name or address?
30

What is the purpose of the BRN?
Protect health and safety of consumers by promoting quality registered nursing care.
What are the functions of the BRN?
Licensing, approving education programs, creating and enforcing competency standards, final authority on NPA
What is the Nurse Practice Act?
Document defining the legal scope of nursing practice and sets requirements for licensure in each state
Grants nurse authority to carry out the defined practice
Who makes up the BRN?
Nine members - 4 public and five nurses. Seven appointed by Governor, two by legislature.
