- a wholistic model of the person living with Dementia to guide an understanding of personhood of the person living with dementia
- not bestowing personhood
if we treat ppl w dementia bad, we may get rising issues/upset

- a standing or status that is bestowed upon one human being, by others, in the context of relationship and social being
- implies recognition, respect, and trust

People’s abilities is as much related to the environment they live as it is to the ability of the brain

How does environment affect personhood?
A
- The environment (physical and social) needs to support the needs of the person living with dementia to convey personhood

Why is personhood not bestowed? (4)
A
- people convey the stereotypes or bias in their interaction with people LWD (living with dementia)
- There is a culture of dementiaphobia and ageism
- Personhood is undermined within interaction
- People are not aware of how their words can hurt

- respect
- person LWD are valued members of society
- recognize their age and experience to learn a lot - Relaxed pace
- creating a relaxed environment
- providing care at an appropriate pace - facilitation
- assess the person’s ability and provide support that is needed (do not overdo, or else excess disability)
