who was at the Paris Peace Conference?
The Conference was controlled by the “Big Four” powers; the USA, Britain, France and Italy. with nearly 30 nation s in attendance.
why were the war post-war settlement and negotiations challenging?
Wilson wanted the USA to play a prominent role in the negotiations the European powers did not share his idealism, and all had their own agendas. they all wanted to impose harsher terms on the Germans than Wilson.

why was the Treaty of Versailles viewed as a failure?
it created resentment in Germany and the Second World War would eventually break out in Europe just 20 years later.
why did the USA not join the League of Nations?
After the resumption of the Peace Conference in Paris, Wilson returned home and toured the USA to gain support for the League of Nations. However, he was followed by opponents of the League who spoke equally convincingly against US membership. the USA Congress rejected membership of the League and so did not sign the Treaty of Versailles or join the League of Nations.
