Chapter 2 - Newton's First Law Flashcards
At what speed does the Earth move?
30 k/s
What is Newton’s First Law?
The Law of Inertia!
“Every object continues in a state of rest/constant velocity unless acted upon by an external force.”
What is the Equilibrium Rule? What must happen between gravity & the normal force for Equilibrium?
The vector sum of all the forces is equal to zero. (Net force = 0). “State of no change.”
The gravitational force and the normal force MUST equal zero for equilibrium.
What is a Vector Quantity?
A vector quantity has both magnitude (size) & direction.
What is a Scalar Quantity?
A scalar quantity only has magnitude (size).
What is the Resultant and how do you calculate it?
The resultant is the sum of two (or more) vectors. You calculate it with the Pythagorean Thereom. (a^2 + b^2 = c^2)
