Q

What is a receptor?

A

a cell that responds to a specific stimuli, leading to the establishment of a generator potential that causes a response

Q

When do stretch-mediated sodium channels allow Na+ ions in?

A

when they are deformed/ stretched, which occurs as a result of pressure

Q

Explain how Pacinian corpuscle receptors detect changes in pressure

A

cell membranes contain stretch-mediated sodium channels
when pressure is applied, these channels stretch (widen) which allows Na+ ions to diffuse in, making the inside of the neurone more positive, which if positive enough an action potential will occur
