1st Amendment
Protects individuals freedom of religion, speech, press, petition, and assembly.
2nd Amendment
American citizens have the right to bare arms.
3rd Amendment
Forbids the government from commandeering private homes to quarter soldiers.
4th Amendment
The people have a right to their property and can deny unreasonable search or seizure by government unless they have warrant from the state.
5th Amendment
Each accused person has the right to grand jury, protection against self-incrimination, and defense against being tried for the same crime twice.
6th Amendment
The accused has the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury. They have the right to know what they are being tried for and the nature of the crime.
7th Amendment
Citizens have the right to trial for any kind of civil case lawsuit.
8th Amendment
Bans cruel and unusual punishment as well as monetary unfairness like excessive bail and fines.
9th Amendment
Citizens of the US have other fundamental rights outside of what the amendments state.
10th Amendment
If a power is not given directly to the federal government in the constitution, it belongs to the state government.
11th Amendment
Protects states from other states/countries and citizens from filing a lawsuit against them.
12th Amendment
Mandatory for electoral college to make 2 votes. One for President and one for Vice President. Establish Vice President is no longer the runner-up.
13th Amendment
Slavery and involuntary servitude shouldn’t exist, unless it’s a punishment for a crime.
14th Amendment
Everyone born in the US has equal laws under state and federal government. Anyone who does treason cannot be government official. (Plus civil war stuff).
15th Amendment
The right to vote cannot be denied based on race, color, or previous conditions of servitude.
