Q

explain what happens in osmosis

A

movement of water molecules across a selectively permeable membrane from an area of high water concentration to an area of lower water concentration, in order to equalize the concentration of solutes on either side of the membrane.

Q

what happens to plant cells when placed in solutions with various concentrations

A

higher concentration of solutes than the cytoplasm of the cell, water will move out of the cell and it will become flaccid.
If the concentration of solutes is lower outside the cell, water will move into the cell and it will become turgid.
