What is the mechanism of action for clopidogrel?

A
  • inhibtis ADP mediated platelet aggregation
  • inhibits binding of ADP to P2Y12 receptor
  • inhibits activation of GPIIb/Ia receptors
  • irreversible binding

What are the adverse drug reactions of clopidogrel?

A
  • Bleeding
  • GI upset: dyspepsia + diarrhoea
  • thrombocytopenia (rare)

What are the important drug drug interactions of clopidogrel?

A

Require CYPs for activation
- CYP inhibitors e.g. omeprazole, Ciprofloxacin, erythromycin
- other anti-platelets + anticoagulants
- NSAIDs
