Q

do you need to do every type of fitness test

A

no- depends on what you are analyzing in the sport
-make sure each one you do is specific to that sport

Q

non-fatiguing tests

A

height, weight, mobility, anthropometrics, vertical jump, broad jump

-anthropometric tests: height, weight, BMI, skinfold, DXA scan, BIA
-flexibility + mobility tests: FMS, sit + reach, goniometry measurements, star-excursion test, y-balance test
-short maximal anaerobic power tests: vertical jump, broad jump

Q

agility tests

A

T-test, pro-agility, Illinois agility, 505 test, L-drill

-these are actually change in direction tests, because true agility requires a reaction component, but it is hard to standardize direction
-each test has a different movement pattern; you want it to line up with athlete you are working with

Q

maximum power + strength tests

A

1 RM power clean, 1RM power snatch, 1 RM bench press, 1RM squat, 1RM deadlift, 1RM overhead press

-olympic lifts do not translate well into sports

Q

sprint tests

A

linear sprints of 10-100m, 40 yd dash

-40yd dash doesn’t have high correlation for football; would be better at 10-23 yds

Q

local muscular endurance tests

A

push up, sit up, pull up, flex-arm hang (if more than 10 can be performed)

-looks at particular muscle in body + its ability to contract for extended period of time
-not used for many sports; MMA if anything

Q

fatiguing anaerobic capacity tests

A

300 yd shuttle, Wingate test

-look at how long our anaerobic systems can run; go 0-60 then keep max effort
-300 yd shuttle has most applicaition to team sports

Q

aerobic capacity tests

A

1.5 mile run, 12 min run, yo-yo intermittent recovery test, beep/pacer test

-this comes last because tires athlete out
-think of if aerobic capacity actually matters in sport
