Midazolam Indications

A
  • Seizures - continuous/recurrent
  • Convulsions associated with Lignocaine toxicity
  • Sedation in the aggitated pt
  • Sedation in psychostimulant OD
  • RSI
  • Sedation to enable intubation
  • Sedation to maintain intubation
  • Sedation to enable synchronised cardioversion

Midazolam Precautions

A
  • Pts with myasthenia gravis
  • Can cause severe respiratory depression in pts with COPD
  • CNS depressant effects of benzo’s are enhanced in the presence of narcotics and other tranquillisers including alcohol
  • Reduced doses may be required for the elderly, pts with chronic renal failure, CCF or shock
