Reasons For The Increase In Food Posioning Flashcards
Farming/food production
-intensive methods of food production where large numbers of animals are in a small space increases the risk of contamination and cross contamination when infection occurs
-The increasing length of food production chain increases the hazards as more people and processes are involved in treating, transporting or storing food
Eating outside the home
-More people buy food ready to eat, this means there are more people handing the food therefore an increased risk of food poisoning
- Infected food handlers or those with poor hygiene habits increases the risk of food poisoning as bacteria have a greater chance to multiply
Shopping for food
-Food which is not kept cold and is purchased at outdoor markets could become contaminated with bacteria which could lead to food poisoning
-Chilled or frozen food, which has been purchased but has not been stored or transported home in a cool box
Preparing food in the home
-Inadequate cooling in a warm kitchen, especially during summer, increases the chance of food poisoning
