A
  • As suburbs grow, they attract more people from the inner city who are attracted by the greater amount of space
    -also attracts people from rural areas
  • Results in the physical expansion of a city into surrounding countryside areas
  • Industries also suburbanise due to cheaper land (decentralisation)

  • Use of telecommunications-fax in the 90’s,email in the 00’s and mobile devices that allow working from home.
  • Cars are 85% of transport methods;easy to commute to work
  • Better housing,more space,lower crime,less pollution
  • Face to face interaction has been replaced by e-conferencing

  • Diversion of funding away from the city centre for new infrastructure and services

  • 30’s-ribbon development along roads
  • 40’s-Led to creation of green belts, strcitly controlled green areas
  • 50/60’s-council housing on suburban fringe
  • 70’s- vast move towards home ownership-more public space

    -e.g Hacklemore village began to grow
  • Shopping centres and leisure venues are evident in the 00’s, good links to the M1 in A57

Eventually expanded into the suburbs.
