A
  • Used to find an unknown concentraction of an acid or alkali

What is the method of a titration?

A
  • Place 25cm3 of alkali in a conical flask on a white tile (using a pipette)
  • Add indicator to conical flask
  • Fill burette with acid and note starting vol
  • Release acid slowlu and swirl conical flask until colour change occurs
  • Note end volume of acid
  • Repeat until you get concordant results and calculate average acid used

  • Litmus = blue to red
  • Phenopthalien = pink to colourless
  • Methyl orange = yellow to red
