Home - I have assisted in coaching rugby for children with learning difficulties for my local rugby club.
Work - I take part in mentoring for students looking to receive work experience to help develop their careers, as well as assistance in improving their CVs

  • Micro Behaviours - not acknowledging someone (behaviours with people you have an affinity or not)
  • Anti-racist - ally system - proactively tackling racism if you hear it

A

Social stereotypes about certain groups of people that individuals form outside their own conscious awareness.

Ways to avoid unconcious bias?

A
  • being actively aware of it
  • advertise jobs in multiple locations to reach different backgrounds
  • blind sifting (holding back certain information such as names to not give away gender etc)
  • having an interviewer on the phone so no visual stereotyping can occur
  • keep a record of how decisions are made - audit trail

A

Direct - when a person is treated less favourably because of a protected characteristic
Indirect - an act that puts someone of a protected charactieristic at a partilcular disadvantage without intention.

What is lawful discrimiation?

A

Only certain discriminations can be justified and the equality act states that there has to be a legitimate aim.

Example would be saying “a surgeon requires 10 years experience, which may indirectly discriminate on a mother who took time off to care for kids, however a hospital can be able to prove that this job requires this level of experience”
