Ethical understanding
Ethical considerations
used to analyse ethical and moral conduct
Integrity
Involves commitment to searching for knowledge and honest reporting of sources and results
Justice
involves fair consideration of
- competing claims
- no unfair burdens
- fair access to benefits of an action
Beneficence
involves maximising benifits and minimising risks
Non-maleficence
involves that avioidance of harm
Repsect
involves fair concidreation of the value of living things
- consideration to make their own decisions
Ethical guidleines
guidelines that ensure the protection of all participants
Confidentiality
ensures anonymity and info kept private and secure
Voluntary participation
ensures participants freely agree to participat with no pressure or coercion
Informed consent
conducted before a study begins
- agree to participate in written from after ALL details have been disclosed
- (purpose, procedures, risks)
- if under 18 (or lack capacity) a parent or guardian make consent for them
MUST:
* Nature and purpose of the study
* Methods of data collection
* Potential risks
Withdrawal rights
ensures particpants are free to discontinue their involvemnt at any point
- without recieveing pentaly
Deception
involves witholind true nature of study
- if the true pursous may affect behaviour
Debreifing
conducted after a study in completetd
- provision of results, tests aim, conculsions, answery questions, ect.
Occupational health and saftey (OHS)
issues of health, safety, and welfare must be protected in a workplace
Risk assessment
a process involving concidereation, identification, and reduction of physical and psychological risk
Saftey data sheet (SDS)
a document that provides all information about a substance
- inculdes ingredients, and first aid measures.
Ethical consideration of deception
Deception may be used if it does not harm participants and is justified by the study’s potential benefits
Participants must be debriefed afterward to ensure ethical standards.
