cell functions Flashcards
Forms outside boundary of animal cell and allows materials to move in and out of the cell. Allows some substances through and some cannot. It maintains homeostasis and is selectively permeable.
Cell membrane
A stiff covering that protects plant cells and provides it with a structure.
Cell wall
Control center of the cell and holds DNA
Nucleus
Produces proteins
Ribosomes
Transportation network that carries protein and other materials from one part to another part in the cell.
Endoplasmic reticulum
Produces energy in the cell.
- muscle cells= larges numbers
- breaks down food to make energy
- ATP
Mitochondria
A green structure in a plant cell that captures energy form the sun to produce food for the plant cell
Chloroplasts
Receives packages and distributes proteins and other materials to different locations inside and outside the cell.
Golgi complex
To break down large food particles into smaller ones and breaks down cell parts and releases substances to reuse.
Lysosomes
Cell storage sac for food, waste, and water. ( plant cells )
Vacuole
Provides direction for cell to follow
Chromosomes
Selective chooses what goes in and out of cells.
Nuclear membrane
Gel like substance found in a cell.
Cytoplasm
Result of cellular respiration and stores energy
ATP
No nucleus or membrane bound
Prokaryote
