which class of antiarrhythmics prolong QRS duration, QT interval?
QRS duration = class 1C, QRS interval = class III
what causes narcolepsy and what is treatment?
low levels of stimulatory neutrotransmitter orexin (hypocretin)…involved in maintening wakefulness
treat with modafinil, amphetamines are second line agents
biggest contraindication for OCP?
smoker for over 35 years
NMS vs serotonin syndrome. treatment
NMS: muscle rigidity (dantrolene or bromocriptine)
serotonin syndrome: myoclonus (cyproheptadine)
what is leuprolide
GnRH analog, used in pulsatile fashion can act as agonist, if continuous then causes downregulation (can be used in prostate cancer or even infertility)
meds for treatement of status epilepticus
first lorazepam
then use phenytoin for prevention of recurrence
if neither work, use phenobarbital
if niether that then general anesthesia

hydralazine, procainamide, isoniazid
what is etanercept?
TNF alpha blocker for RA, ankylosing spondylitis, or psoriasis. It is a fusion protein (decoy receptor)
what are the suffix mab, cept, and nib for
monoclonal antibody, receptor molecule, and kinase inhibitor respectively
what are canagliflozin and dapagliflozin?
new oral anti diabetic agents that are SGLT2 inhibitors
side effects: UTI b/c glucosuria, symptomatic hypotension, avoid in those with moderate to severe renal impairment
MAC infection characterized by what
fever, weightloss, diarrhea in HIV patient. Anemia and hepatosplenomegaly, and elevated alkaline phosphatase + lactate dehydrogenase also common b/c of involvment of RES system. Grows well at 41 celsius
what is DRESS syndrome?
eosinophilia, fever, lymphadenopathy, facial edema, and diffuse skin rash following anticonvulsant, allopurinol, sulfonamide, and antibiotics
