What is the normal 1st response for a water rescue?

A
  • Along with the normal first response vehicle, A202 and TR202 (with Water Rescue Team on board) will be dispatched to any calls with the potential of being a water/ice emergency
  • TR202 will be normally manned by personnel assigned to P202 if possible. If not, then A202 personnel
  • It will be at the discretion of the Station Captain if P202 also responds with a driver.

1-Provide an initial report of the scene to fire Control and incoming apparatus

Describe the incident action plan for a Water/Ice rescue.

A

THe size-up and info collected shall be used to develop an incident action plan. This plan shall reflect the Tactical priorities of the scene bearing in mind an appropriate hazard risk assessment and/or risk versus reward evaluation. The plan must be easily communicated with clear objectives. It must be understood that the plan also must allow for some flexibility and that the plan must be constantly evaluated and updated.

On on scene a member of the Water Rescue Team shall be designated the WRSO. Their duties shall include: (list 8)

A

1- Determine whether operations are in the rescue mode or recovery mode
2-Determine an equipment staging area
3-Ensure safety check are done prior to rescue attempts
4-Assign personnel to required duties
5-Oversee and direct the rescue operation
6-Ensure patient assessment and stabilization
7-Update the IC as to the progress of the operation on a regular basis
8-Maintain communication either verbally or by hand signals with personnel at all times

What are the required qualifications to be a Water Rescue Officer?

A

1-Completed the BFES Water/Ice Rescue Program
2-A non-officer can assume the is position should a qualified rescue officer not be present, provided this person has the training to safely control this type of emergency
