A

The rash is the result of a penicillin reaction (likely given if strep is thought to be the cause of the pharyngitis)

A

How is the diagnosis of EBV made?

A

EBV infection induces various EBV specific ab and non-specific heterophile ab (specific to multiple species)

These hereophile ab can be tested for using the:

  • Paul-Bunnell test and Monospot test

Testing for the EBV specific ab can follow these

How is EBV treated?

A

These is no specific treatment for EBV

Corticosteroids are indicated for haemolytic anaemia, thrombocytopenia, CNS involvement or extreme tonsillar enlargement
