Q

How do you calculate the average plasma glucose from %HbA1C?

A

( 2 x % ) - 4.5

(e.g. HbA1c = 5%)

THEREFORE (2 x 5) - 4.5 = 5.5mmol/l is the average plasma glucose.

Q

What is the IFCC-HbA1c equivalent for an HbA1C of 6%?

A

42 mmol/mol

(Just subtract 2 from the % and you are in the approximate ballpark e.g. 6-2 = 4)
