5 - Metal Frame Alignment & Lens Insertion Flashcards

1
Q

What are the 2 steps to check the horizontal alignment of a metal frame? see diagram in powerpoint

A
  1. Place a ruler
across the front of the frame near
    the height of the nosepads.
    2.Both endpieces should be
    equidistant from the straight edge
    when it is aligned horizontally

Q

What are the 4 steps to inserting the lenses in a metal frames?

A

1) Remove the eyewire screw.
2) Check the lens size, use a
hand edger to reduce the size if
required.
3) Once the lens is seated well into
the eyewire, close the eyewire
screw.
4) Using polarized lenses or a
colmascope check the amount of
tension on the lenses from the
eyewire.

14
Q

What are 4 checks are done on a metal frame after lens insertion.

A

1)Eyewire is flat or uniformly rounded on the outside
2) Compare eyewire to other empty lens slot. make sure lens fit in all around and has not been twisted.
3) Make sure upper rim near bridge is not humped or stretched - altering original frame shape
4)Use an spare frame without the lenses of the same frame check to make sure they are the same shape.

16
Q

Where do you start adjustments from?

A

The bridge

17
Q

Can a horizontal skewed bridge always be corrected with pliers?

A

No - Hands may need to be used rather than pliers

18
Q

Does the frontal angle change height of the frame?

A

No - it is used for flat or tall noses.

19
Q

Does the Splay angle change height of the frame?

A

No- The twist on the nosepads adjusts to the specifics of a pxs nose

20
Q

Does the vertical angle change the height of the frame?

A

It can do slightly - mainly moves frames further away or closer.

21
Q

In 90% of metal frames the screw goes in upside down? T/F

A

True

22
Q

Do changing the angles of the 3 nosepads angles (splay, frontal, vertical) change the height of the frame?

A

No they dont, increasing + decreasing the distance between them changes the height of the frames
