What are the 5 Pillars and What do they mean in English?
Shahadah - declaration of faith
Salat - prayer
Zakat - charity giving
Sawm - fasting
Hajj - pilgrimage to Makkah
What does a Muslim have to say to follow the Shahada?
There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is a messenger of Allah
When does a Muslim say the shahadah?
Every time they pray
Why does a Muslim say the shahadah
It builds a stronger connection with Allah
Explain what the shahadah is.
It is a statement, a declaration of faith
Explain what salat is
A way of worshipping Allah by communicating with him. Muslims perform Salat and prepare themselves for it in a particular manner taught by Muhammad

5x a day

Builds consciousness of Allah
Where can Muslims do salat?
Anywhere, as long as they face the Kabbah, are on a clean mat or floor and have done wudu
Explain zakat briefly
Giving 1/40 of their wealth once all bills have been payed, if they can afford it, to benefit the poor, worship Allah and purify the giver
Why do Muslims do zakat?
Teaches sacrifice, perseverance and parience
How often is zakat done?
Annually
Explain Sawm briefly
From just before dawn until sunset everyday in the month of Ramadan, Muslims go without food or water

Teaches religious discipline and gratefulness

Annually, during the month of Ramadan

All adult Muslims who are neither ill, nor travelling, nor pregnant

The annual Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah where the Kabbah is located
Why do Muslims do Hajj?
To walk in the footsteps of prophets and to seek forgiveness from Allah for past sins

Annually, between the 8th and 13th Dhul Hijjah
