What is Exit By Pass?

A
  • Method of maintaining balanced PAX flow by directing PAX to another usable exit or a dried up exit.
  • Always redirect PAX in small groups & monitor the PAX flow.
  • Be aware that families & travelling companions will be reluctant to be separated. Use good judgement to establish a balanced PAX flow.

What is a Dried Up Exit?

A
  • A usable exit at which there are no evacuating PAX.
  • Crewmember at this exit should encourage PAX to use the exit.
  • May be necessary to move a short distance into the cabin.
  • Should only occur after assessing that the designated exit is safe to leave unattended.

A
  1. Close oven door if open.
  2. Turn power off & pull circuit breakers.
  3. Keep door closed, fire will self-extinguish.
  4. If flames present, open door slowly.
  5. Discharge amount of halon required to put out fire. Wait 30 secs.
  6. Ensure fire is out, remove contents & dampen.

  • If duration is 8-10 seconds, that is fine.
  • If duration is over 10 seconds, notify the FD immediately- advising which engine (1 or 2). Be prepared for evacuation.

  1. Always put on FULL UNIFORM for maximum protection of self.
  2. When approaching fire, move slowly
  3. Stay low & protect yourself
  4. Aim discharge at base of fire with slow, sweeping motion

  6. Always be prepared for re-ignition
