  1. Must be seated in a window seat at the end of an evacuation route (Midpoint between 2 exits)
  2. Must not be seated in a row that is next to or immediately in front of an emergency exit
  3. The seat immediately behind the passenger’s is vacant.

A

The medical condition which is an actual injury, disease or other disorder which produces a reduction in physical or mental function.

A

The restriction in a person’s functional capacity which results from an impairment.

Example: Loss of movement of lower limbs (due to an impairment of a spinal cord injury)

A

Describes the difficulty an individual may have functioning in an environment.

Example: Impossibility of entering a building with stairs. (Due to loss of movement of lower limbs (disability) which is a result of damage to the spinal cord (impairment).

What does ‘self-reliant’ mean?

A

Except for needs relating to safety, self-reliant means a person who is independent, self-sufficient and capable of taking care of all personal needs during flight and does not require assistance of a personal nature (ie. With eating, washroom facilities or administering medication)

A

A

Yes, as long as they cylinders have been completely emptied of O2 and conform to COB size dimensions.
(9x16x20 inches or 23x40x50cm)

ALSO MUST:

  • be able to be stowed & secured under the seat
  • must provide proof that each bottle meets airworthy requirements

List conditions under which POC maybe be brought on board?

A

Portable O2 Concentrator:
- can only be used in battery operated mode

  • pax must bring sufficient number of batteries for duration of flight & unanticipated delays
  • extra batteries must be individually packages so they do not come into contact with other batteries or metal objects
  • pax must ensure that POC is free of oil, grease, or other petroleum products & is in good condition
  • pax must have letter from physician stating that they have ability to hear, see and understand device’s cautions and warnings & respond accordingly.
    (If they are not capable, must be travelling with companion who is)

-letter must have issue date of no more than one year more than flight departure date

  • Finally:
  • PIC must be notified prior to flight that a pax will be using medical O2

What additional points must be included in a briefing for a pax with a POC?

A
  1. In the event of an on board fire, the pax and portable O2 concentrator should be moved to a location away from the fire
  2. In the event of an emergency requiring an evacuation, the O2 equipment should remain on board the aircraft

Can a pax use a POC during taxi, take-off or landing?

A

Yes, provided the POC is secure and does not restrict any pax’s access to an exit row or bulkhead seat

  • must be empty and free of pressure

- battery must be removed and packaged separately
