What is appendicitis

sudden inflammation of the appendix and is a surgical emergency.

A
Highest incidence is between 10-20y but can occur at any age.

A
A 21 year old presents to SAU with fever, nausea, and right illiac fossa. The pain was around her belly at first

Investigations of Appendicitis
A
Diagnosis is usually clinical
USS not helpful because most likely wont see appendix

Symptoms of appendicitis
A
Periumbilical pain that moves to the RIF. Anorexia is important. vomiting rare Constipation is usual Diarrhoea may occur

What is the relation between pain and vomiting in the surgical abdome
A
Pain usually precedes vomiting
