Experiment: To test for the presence of Starch
1) Fill a test tube with starch solution
2) add a few drops off iodine
3) iodine = blue black when starch is present
Iodine = yellow when starch is not present
Experiment: to test for the presence of a reducing sugar (glucose)
1) fill two test tubes with benedicts solution and set up a water bath
2) add glucose to one and iodine to the other
3) tube with glucose goes red brick, water stays blue
Experiment :To test for the presence of protein
1) fill two test tubes with sodium hydroxide solution

3) add copper sulphate solution
4) mixture with milk goes purple
Mixture with water remains blue
What does diet depend on?
- Your gender
- Your age

Experiment : to investigate the conservation of chemical energy in food into heat energy
1) clamp a test tube of water and a thermometer in a retort stand
2) burn a cracker beneath the water and heat the water with using a mounted needle
3) temperature rises
