5A-Light dependent stage Flashcards
KEY TERM - NADPH
A coenzyme that is a proton and electron carrier in photosynthesis- energy carrier
KEY TERM - ATP
Adenosine Triphosphate, an energy molecule that when broken down provides energy for cellular processes
KEY TERM - photolysis
the process in which molecules are broken down by the action of light
What are the inputs of the light-dependent stage?
- 12 H2O (water) molecules
- 12 NADP+
- 18 ADP +P
What are the outputs of the light-dependent stage?
- 6 O2 (oxygen) molecules
- 12 NADPH
- 18 ATP
Step one-
Independent stage needs 24 hydrogens, so the 12 H2O molecules are split (reaction called Photolysis)
Step two-
Oxygen is released through the stomata (small amounts are kept in case of cellular respiration)
Step three-
Free hydrogen ions from the water molecule bond with NADP to create NADPH. ADP bonds with free phosphates to form the co-enzyme/energy carrier ATP. ATP is made by the enzyme ATP-Synthase. (loaded form)
What are the outputs of the light dependent stage?
- 6 O2 molecules
- 12 NADPH molecules
- 18 ATP
