6. Plant Nutrition Flashcards
(11 cards)
Describe photosynthesis
the process by
which plants synthesise carbohydrates from raw
materials using energy from light
Word equation and chemical equation of photosynthesis
6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2
carbon dioxide + water → glucose + oxygen
in the presence of light and chlorophyll
Explain chlorophyll
chlorophyll is a green pigment that is
found in chloroplasts it transfers energy from light
into energy in chemicals, for the synthesis of
carbohydrates
Use of carbohydrates (glucose) in plants
Turned to starch as an energy store
Turned to cellulose to build cell walls
glucose used in respiration to provide energy
Turned to sucrose for transport in the phloem
nectar to attract insects for pollination
Explain the importance of nitrate ions and magnesium ions
. Nitrate ions-to male amino acid
D-weak growth yellow leaves
Magnesium ions- to make chlorophyll
D- m yellowing of leaves
Explain how leaves are adapted for photosynthesis
.large s.a
Large amount of slight can fall onto leaves
Increases diffusion rate of carbon dioxide
Thin
Sunlight can inter easily
Gas exchange easy
Helps coz reach all cells quickly
Draw structure of leatf with 10
Explain now leat structures lindivisually are adapted for photosynthesis
upper epidermis sevetes a waxy substance which is water proof. It reduces quantity of water vapour escaping
Palisade mesopul- tall, elongated columns tightly packed with clorophlast for photosynthesis.
spongy mesophyll - contain airspaces for diffusion of carbon dioxide & oxygen
Stomata - openings to allow gas exchange
Gaurdcell- help control opening and closing Of Stomata
Factors affecting photosynthesis
What is ,imiting factor
Supply of coz and water
Quantits of sunlight
Terperutur
Factor which is short in supply, stopping the activity to happen at a faster rate
Mow does starch found in roots of grass support grass growth
Glucose is stoved as starch in plant cells, Enersy is released from glucose durving respiration, this energy can be required n for growth and active transport
How does water enter the plant
water in the soil enters the root via root hair cells, water the moves through the cell wall then travels acuoss a partially pacmeable cel membrane into the cytoplasm by osmosis
